Ive been getting a sharkoon silent eagle to replace the corsair 120mm fan on my H50. Ive just noticed that the cpu fan header is 4 pin and the silent eagle is 3 pin.
Will it make any difference if i plug the fan into a 3 pin slot on my motherboard as i have no 3/4 pin converters?
Or there is a power lead (4 pin male & female)that came withe the fan which has a male 3pin conecter with a +ve and -ve supply from the power lead. the 3 pin male connecter then has a white wire going to a 3 pin female connecter that i presume plugs into a 3pin slot on the motherboard.
Sorry for the knob question.

3-pin and 4-pin are compatible with each other, you should notice a small bit of plastic on the CPU-Fan header, this is offset slightly so you can use a 3-pin fan if there without putting it over the wrong pins. I currently have a 3-pin fan as my CPU fan, the only difference is I loose PWM control (A method of controlling the speed of the fan)

Ive been pondering that fan, please update this thread once its installed and let us know if it reduces temps and what the noise is like

thanks :)

The sharkoon silent eagles are very good fans (theyre all that i use theese days). The 1000 rpm model is pretty quiet but the 2000 rpm version can be a bit loud at full speed, i tend to run mine of a fan controller, had 2 of the 2000's on a TRUE black cooling a q6600 at 3.8ghz temps of 68-68-62-62.
