Fan Control doesn't find fans

I've a (rather ageing) server that uses an Asus Z10PE-D16 WS board in a Phanteks Enthoo case, with 8 fans installed plus two CPU fans, one for each cpu.

The case fans stay at the same speed day in, day out. It would be nice to control them - there are no bios controls for the fans - so I tried downloading FanControl.

But it doesn't find any fans, all it finds is the graphics card.

Question: does this motherboard not manage fan speed at all? It doesn't seem like it, unless I'm missing something.

You mean the server monitor? Could be. I tried looking at fan info using a trial copy of AIDA64, and it seems the fans come under IPMI, whatever that is. It reported speeds for the two CPU fans but all the case fans were shown as 0.

Edit: Just looked and the Z10PE BIOS does have a Monitor menu, with fan stuff. I was looking at the Z13PE manual, which doesn't seem to have that.

Must confess the whole thing about fans is baffling me. I never really worried about it before, they just seemed to work, and the speed never seemed to vary or need to, but as I'm putting together a new server and that promises to be hotter than before, I'd like to at least know the fans were actively controlled in some way. It seems for most motherboards there is a bios setting for the fans, but the Asus Z series mobos don't have that; I presume because they are intended for the server market and people never want to tweak fan settings? I stumbled across a youtube vid by JayZ where he was talking about FanControl and that looked promising, but not for my case it seems.

i did try fan control myself a few days ago but it literally only found my cpu fan and the [unused] aio pump header lol it didnt find the case fan headers [which ive actually got in use] i might have to give it another shot if theres a known issue and workaround i just assumed that my mobo didnt like it lol

It found all the fans for me, but only the sensor for the NVidia gpu, so that's the only one it can calibrate. All my case fans go to one fan header on the mobo, and the 2 cpus to the two cpu fan headers. Not sure why it doesn't see the sensors.
