Hey guys,

I need help - I was just given a Dell Precision 530 workstation and Im loving it to bits except I hate noise from pc's espeiclally this one. The 3 fans make a kind of droning sound which is really annoying. Speedfan cant find them and niether can a few other tools ive tried. I tried everest home edition which finds all 3 and tells me their RPM etc but obviously in everest you cannot change the fan speed.

Any help guys? Ive tried unplugging them and it brings up a message in the bios telling me to press F1 which will get even more annoying.

I also noticed the fans use the typical red/white/black cable which means I could plug one of my own into the port on the motherboard if it fitted?

Any help much appreciated as this is driving me pretty insane,

RoachycaL :)

You can only control fan speed from the mobo with a 4 pin fan which has PWM. You could get a zalman resistor to decrease the fan speed or a fan controller?

So a fan controller will be able to control these fans? They are 3 pin - how does the controller connect to the fans? The connector isnt the usual 3 pin connector.

Yeah their clean - how noisey is yours as they use the same chassis etc. the "whinyness" is what im trying to describe - its funny because the front fan is completley silent and so are the two 40mm PSU fans *suprisingly*, its the two back fans that are noisey.

I know the sound you're on about...it's a droning whine isn't it.

IIRC, I cleaned the fans and squirted then with some Electrical contact cleaning spray stuff, and they worked better again.

Got a bit furthur - when I take the fans off their stupid clip on system (anti vibration out the window), their silent so I need something to stop them from vibrating off the back of the case - problem is they clip onto the back so I dont think I can put anything inbetween them and the case
