As the title states I'm looking for some freeware that will allow me to change the speeds of my fans. The desktop that I'm using at the moment is a pre built one and for some reason the fans are really loud. The CPU fan is going at around 3500RPM but the noise is absolutely unbearable unless you have headphones on. It's an Intel E8400 with the stock heatsink and fan if that makes a difference. But anyway, I was wondering if there was some sort of program I could download that will allow me to set lower fan speeds for when I want to leave the PC downloading over night.

Cheers in advance. :)

I use fancontrol
But if this does not suit your needs, I recommend this option

Put an aftermarket cooler on the cpu. Any will be better than the stock, I like the alpine pro. If you force lower speeds and ignore temperatures it can end badly, are you aware of this?

I'll give the first one a try mate. Yes, I'm aware that temps need to be monitored of course, although overnight I suppose I could just set the maximum temperature in the bios to something a bit lower because if anything catastrophic happened I'd be asleep. I was going to get the Freezer 7 eventually for my E8400 by the way. :)

Also, the only time I'll be using the lower RPM on the fans is when I'm downloading overnight so if I've just got the PC idle apart from a single download then that shouldn't use up too much of the CPU's resources. :)

speed fan?

I tried speed fan and it didn't seem to work, also the RPM's were at crazy settings, it doesn't matter really though as I've got Windows 7 on my MacBook through BootCamp. I'll just download overnight on that, it's completely silent, then, because of it running Windows natively I'll just send whatever files I want across the network to the desktop PC.

Cheers. :)
