Hey, just wondered if there are any other Fan Control users out there. This popped up today for me from Windows Defender.

Using v236 which hasn't changed for a few weeks for me. Unless Defender has had an engine / definition update?

Apparently I can Quarantine, Remove, or Allow.

Not sure how to proceed with this, is it legit or a false/positive.

Cheers.

EDIT: Looks like lots of people getting this - https://github.com/Rem0o/FanControl.Releases/issues/3016. Going to go to latest version as that apparently doesn't use Winring0

It's legit, in a round about way, there's a vulnerability in one of the modules the software uses, https://support.microsoft.com/en-us...winring0-eb057830-d77b-41a2-9a34-015a5d203c42

however there is an update at https://github.com/Rem0o/FanControl.Releases?tab=readme-ov-file

with a fix in version v238 according to the info above.
Thanks very much. I've gone to latest 240 release with the different driver. Done a quick re-scan and nothing is appearing so hopefully all good now.

Windows defender is also flagging signal rgb
At the moment for me when it never did before
So yeah defender definition updates can flag stuff
That it previously didn't
So even once you updated the software
Defender may update definitions and flag the newer
Software version
Bit of a whack a mole situation
