Fan Controller BSOD

Hi guys,

Just come across an odd problem. Recently did a full rebuild/upgrade in a Fractal Arc Midi r2 and system seems pretty rock solid. Only problem is, changing the fan controller setting occasionally causes instant BSODs. The fan controller is wired by molex to the PSU, and there's nothing else connected on that chain. The controller works, as far as I can tell, and I've never had any problems with the PSU (Corsair HX520). Any ideas on the cause?

Cheers,
James

Hey I know this thread is old but changing the setting on my fan controller causes bsod too
On fractal arc midi r2 using built in fan controller
Any ideas?

It must be a particularly nasty fan controller if the adjustment causes an instability to your CPU or RAM or whatever causes the BSOD.

Has the controller always caused this issue?

I think I have it figured out, my PSU came with a cable that has 2 sata power an 2 molex coming off it. I'm running windows on an ssd that is connected to one of these sata power cables.
The fan controller is connected to a molex on the same cable. I think when you change fan setting it causes the ssd to stop momentarily which crashes the os. Im going to try running the fan controller on its own dedicated cable so it cant interfere.
Is a bit dodgy from fractal.

Wow,that is dodgy :/

You should put a review on the product page pointing out that issue.

Definatly something people should know before buying that case.

Yeah I will do. Its such a great case shame about this problem. My only faults with it are this, and it only came with 9 mb standoffs (it was supposed to come with 11).
I'm mainly worried about what ever it was doing to make my ssd bsod, hope it hasn't caused damage. I've ran tests on the ssd and it seems fine, just hope it doesn't manifest later.
