I have a Haf X with 5 fans at the moment.

I've just purchased 2*Sharkoon Silent Eagles 2000 RPM and will probably need a controller.

I will have the Sharkoon's as push/pull with H50, one top exhaust, 1 side and 1 front intake.

Which controller would best suit my needs? Would be nice if there is one that can control the Sharkoon's semi-automatically.

If you are only controlling 2 fans put them on your cpu header using a splitter. Then you can control them via bios or software.

Is this something I could use:

REVIEW: Ah, don't wanna blow anything lol :)

Which lamptron one would be best?

You're not going to blow anything "most" cpu headers are rated for about 3amps which is way more than the draw from 2 fans. Hell I once ran 9 fans from one header with no issues.

The person who blew the header was either unlucky, stupid or both.

This is what you need: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CB-013-AK&groupid=1929&catid=153&subcat=

Okay, sounds fine I guess, I've been running one of the 120mm fans and a 200mm I currently have from the same header and no problems so far.

Using the splitter you have suggested however I don't think I will be able to control the speed, am I right? These are 2000 rpm and would make quite a lot of noise at that speed. I need to be able to control them.

No you'll be able to control them via bios or your mobo software using voltage regs. Your board will just see it as "one" fan.

I currently actually have a similar splitter, when I tried putting the 2*120's together on the CPU header, the software, AI Suite, wasn't able to control them, they were just running at full speed. There's something that can be done in the BIOS?

Strange it should not make any difference, in your power settings menu on your bios you should have the option to set control fans by PWM or Voltage. Make sure they are set on voltage for 3 pin fans.

I have had a go at this, but god its terrible. Forget using 2 fans, I plugged one of the Sharkoon's straight to the CPU_FAN header and there is no control whatsoever. The fan is 3 PIM and the Mobo has 4 pins, does this mean the only option is a fan controller? AI suite isn't controlling it at all.

Sometimes the boards and software just don't work as they are advertised. It should work by voltage control on a 3 pin fan but if it doesn't on your board then you're going to have to get a fan controller.

Yeah, seems like I will have to do that, which controller would you recommend?

Up to you though looks like ocuk is running out of stock on lots of them.

I would normally recommend the lamptrons and then the scythes but what do you want? Do you need temp readings, do you need rpm reading, do you need some kind of auto control etc?

If all you want is a dial get the lamptron fc2, quality piece of kit but basic. Scythe have a server version of the kaza master which has auto and semi auto control based on temp probes. I use one to ramp up fan speed based on water temp; however I don't think it would be any use on an air cooled rig as you would be increasing fan speed based on some air temp in your case which is not necessarily a good indication of your cpu temp.

To be honest for your needs get the cheapest one you can get that you like the look of.

Hi,

Sorry for the late reply, but my issue has been resolved :). I simply exchanged the fans, I got 2 Akasa Vipers, similar RPM and even quieter. They are both PWN and I also got a PWM splitter cable, works like a charm.

Thanks for all the input guys.
