I have 6 Akasa AK-FN059 120mm Ultra Quiet Venom Viper fans, 3 intake and 3 exhaust (2 exhausting through top mounted rad). My motherboard is a
MSI Z97 MPower Intel Z97, it has 2 cpu 4 pin headers pwm enabled, and 3 system headers (4 pin but actually only work as 3 pin). For some reason, the board oddly detected the speed from 1 of the system header and not the other 2, this means it runs the fans at about 1000rpm minimum, so it can be a bit noisy for just Internet browsing and films etc..

Any ideas on what could be causing it to not detect these fans? It seems to detect other 3 pin fans fine.. If not, what fan controller do you guys recommend that will look okay and allow me to run the fans at the minium rpm, or even zero rpm.

Haven't tried clearing CMOS, I'll have a look into that, as I would prefer not to use a controller unless I really have to.

Not sure if I like the look of that controller either, doesn't look like it would go well aesthetically.

Horrible fan controller imho.

I bought the Bitfenix Recon for my Fractal R4, and yes it works, but the display is pretty crappy.

I'm in the same position (just got the Air 540 in white) and I'm sticking the Recon on ebay. I've gone for the Lamptron FC5 v2, simply because it has a decent display and most importantly, hard dials to be able to make speed changes quickly.

It might not look the best, but horses for courses - in a case with lots of fans, an SLI configuration on air and where noise control is important, this seemed to be the best option.

I used NZXT Sentry Mix 2

Took apart and used white plasticote on the face.

Repainted it again after I left grubby finger marks (mechanic). only have the before pic to hand

I have it running 2 phanteks 140sp per channel over the first 3, the 6 leds in my res + scythe slim on the 4th.
2 channels unused.

in the mrs build i just used a Aqua Computer Aquaero 5 LT USB Fan-Controller and fitted it into the back of the case. pricey but you can't beat the customization.
