Hey guys i need some help with a fan controller i bought.

This is it

I used the fan controller molex straight into the PSU molex then off the fan controller molex to my case fan, then the case fan 3pin to the fan controller, i have also tried not using the case fan molex and just the 3pin but the fan doesn't even spin

Here is the specs of the Fan Controller

Specifications:

Voltage of Fan 1, Fan 2, Fan 3, Fan 4 is 6V to 12V
Output power:10W
Dimension: 10.1 x 9.5 x 2.5cm
Fan interface:3.0 4pin port
Connecting line:40cm
Max output current:2.8A
Color of LED: Blue

I only have one fan that has a Molex connection and a 3pin connection, the fan spins but the fan controller doesnt seem to do anything with the fan speed.

anyone any ideas ?

You need to use one of the fan controller's fan connectors to get any control. The Molex will always be 12v.

A Molex to 3 pin won't allow control still as its still using the 12v. 3 pin to Molex might work if you can get the gender of the connectors right and get it hooked up to one of the controllers channels.

That link is not allowed here as OcUK sell that sort of stuff.

What exactly are you trying to control with this though? What connections does it have?

If it has a Molex and a 3 pin fan connector like that one appears to have on the side panel then the only way you can easily control that is by plugging the 3 pin fan connector into your fan controller and adjusting to suit. If you plug in the Molex it'll have 12v all the time.

I want to control 3 of my case fans, they all have Molex connectors but one has a Molex and a 3pin connection, though the 3pin does not control or power the fan, so i am not sure why this fan has both connectors on it.

Sometimes the 3 pin connector only has the yellow tach wire attached so you can get an output on the speed but that won't give control.

If you have a fullly populated 3 pin fan connector then it will be controllable but only if you disconnect the Molex connector from the PSU.

Your Molex fans will need to be replaced or converted to 3 pin fan connectors if you want to control them. You could convert them by getting some 3 pin fan to Molex female connector adaptors.

Something like this.....

....but you'd just connect it to the fan controller and to the male Molex of your molex fans.

It won't be pretty of course. I'd prefer just to chop the Molex off and solder on proper fan connectors.

Just to clarify, the above link picture has yellow wire in middle of 3 pin plug. This is not the rpm yellow wire but is variable voltage wire.

Color coding of 3pin fan plug w/ index tabs up:
Black = neutral/earth, middle (Red) = 12v or 5v power in, other side (Yellow) = RPM signal fan.
4pin molex angled corners up:
Yellow = +12 V, Black = Ground, Black = Ground, Red = +5 V

Molex plugs are easy to pull pin and re-position to change voltage to fan.
yellow/black =12v
red/black = 5v
yellow/red = 7v

Simples; remove black pin from fan molex and insert into yellow pin.
