So, I want the ability to practically put all my fans to silent/off with just the PSU ticking over as I want to remove the Blu Ray player and put a Blu Ray drive in the PC. But, it's just too noisy for quite film watching. It's just air rush noise.

I didn't know where to put the thread as it's CPU fan, case fans and POSSIBLY PSU fan if I decide to 'mod' it.

Can this be done by software? Fan controller?

I want nothing more than a 'off switch which sets all my fans to a dead silent profile with a 'boost' if the temps get too high if that makes sense? Is something like this possible?

Heard of a fan controller? Probably the easiest option, turn a few knobs (depending on controller) and you're done :)

Which CPU cooler do you have a stock one?

If you have PWM fans hooked up to PWM headers on your motherboard then yes you can control it via software. If you’re using standard 3 pin fans you’re better off using a fan controller to control speeds and noise.

The problem with the knobs, will there be some form of failsafe? If temps get too high will the fans actually kick in? Can you put in a custom fan curve?

As for the CPU fan, it's a Zalman CNPS9900, really pleased with it!

If you don't have PWM fans hooked up to 4 pin motherboard fan headers then you will need something like the Gelid SpeedTouch which can be setup to work automatically (can't vouch for the user friendless of the software though).

I think with speedfan software you can set custom fan curves but if I am right it depends on whether you have a 4 pin fan.

As for fan controllers the better ones come with software where you should be able to set custom curves
