Fan directions?

I'm about to put my new rig together but i'm unsure as to all the fan positions I should have. At the moment I have 1x120mm intake fan at the front, 120mm exhaust fan at the back, a gpu pci exhaust fan, and a noctua NH-U12F for the cpu. My OCZ modstream also has a fan i'm guessing it extracts from under the psu near the cpu and throws it out the back of the case. So what fan directions should i use for the setup, its mainly the noctua direction i'm struggling with. I seem to find lots of contrasting views on the net so am a bit confused. Does it blow onto the cpu, away from it or should i get 2 and do both  .

I aso have space for an 80mm fan on the side of my case directly above my cpu, would it be worth getting one for their as well, and again, what direction? (And where would I plug it in, i thought I only have enough connections on my mobo for 2 case fans?)

Sorry for my noobiness, but this will be my first serious overclocked rig and I want to get everything right. Cheers

personally I would want a flow for the air. As you dont say the case you're using I don't know if the psu is at the top or bottom etc so I'm going to assume top of the case for it.

I would go 120mm at front pulling air into case from outside.
the cpu cooler would then pull the air from the front of the case and out of the rear fan which is exhausting the air.
So basically the 3 main fans are all going in the same direction front to back.
I wouldnt use the side fan as it probably wont do much with the noctua design. The psu would just be there pulling more air out at the top.

Position the fan on the Noctua so that it blows in the same direction as the rest of the air, from front to back. That probably means you'll position it on the front of the cooler and point its airflow toward the rear exhaust.

As in having the fan on the front of the heatsink (nearer the front of the case) and having it blow throw the heatsink tower to the back of the case and straight to the exhaust fan?

And also is it worth taking out spare PCI slots on the back to allow some hot air out or will that mess up the flow of the air?

Yup.

I wouldn't bother.

I have had to resign to positioning the fan on the Noctua pulling air through but their site and instructions explicitly state that air should blow onto the sink.

Dunno why, doesn't seem to make much difference.

(My mobo is the Abit IP35-E which is stated by Noctua's site as being compatible but the large NB heatsink makes all but the above impossible arrangements.)

Anyhoo. I know this is an oldish thread, just thought i'd add my 2pence.
