Hey
I'm likely going to buy an Antec 900, but am a little concerned about dust (even though my current case has a completely exposed intake fan). Was just wondering if anyone knows any household materials that can be used as dust guards? If not then where can I buy some proper ones? Email in trust :) What are they actually called? "Dust filters"?

lol i made one of these threads a while back :D although i dont know about those filters.... can they fit between the metal mesh and the fan???

To be fair tights will do exactly the same job, with the possible exception of disturbing the airflow from the fans

Naud

I use a pair of tights on a 25cm fan I have on the side of my case. It collects a lot of dust so needs emptying out frequently but is essentially quite good. (Asda Smart Price tights).

Good idea that may have to try this

how often do you people clean out the inside of your cases?

Only mod i have done to my 900 is the tights mod.

Take the fan bays out and remove the mesh covers. Stretch a double layer of tights over the front of the fan and re-attach the mesh covers. They do need cleaning pretty often though but its fairly simple to do with a hoover.

I found that with only one layer across the fan it did not stop much dust and on med or high airflow the fan actually sucked the tights into it and ripped holes in it hence i used 2 layers :)

i use tights too on my antec 900, and with a little cable management mod the air duster does the rest.

and its primark for the win on tights :)

Has anyone noticed a rise in Temp when using tights? I've heard before hand that the slight restriction on air flow and the insulating properties of the material can cause temperature rises. That's the only reason why i haven't covered my fans with them.

on my 900 i only put tights on the 2 front intake fans, the 200m top fan and the rear fan i didnt bother with.

i did notice a slight rise in temps but i switched the front 2 fans to medium setting as well as the top fan and im still getting that reassuringly cool air on my legs and feet.

Ive recently fitted a fan on the side panel which is becoming a dust magnet so it will need a new filter on it soon.
