Fan Filter Material - Where can you get it?

Unless they have changed them recently those i linked to are made of 2 pieces of plastic with a piece of filter foam between (the foam is a separate piece not moulded to anything)

there isn't really any other choice in how to manufacture them. I had a quick look to find this material a week or 2 back but ended up finding out about MERV ratings for classifying materials against what they filter

was thinking about this a while back, and didnt bother looking in the end, but was thinking of the cooker hood filters

the old 1`s iirc are a mesh type stuff

The open cell foam is ok as a filter but serious use an old pair of tights or stockings.
If you don't know ANY ladies - get out more ;), or just buy some from M&S etc.
You need either a low denier (5 or 10) but these easily rip, or an open weave with a low thread count (usually with a pattern or colour that you can match to system)
The key is to streach the fabric over the fan frame - secure with rubber band and trim excess

If you must use a foam and they can allow more air through so I can understand why you want this approach.
Then try a vacume cleaning stockist or department store (small electricals) - they have loads of them.

Remember all filter will reduce air flow.
And hovering your room once a week while have more effect that adding a filter
