Yeah so one of my gfx card fans all of a sudden just went to 3300rpm from it's default 1400 and now I can't change it back.

When I restart my pc it goes back to default speed but when windows loads again it goes back.

I wasn't doing much at the time just browsing this forum :S

I thought it might be something to do with the drivers so I checked for a update and there was one so I updated it but it's still doing it.

Tried using rivatuner but it wants to detect it's default speed but it can't because it's at full :S

Help!

Meh I give up.

This has me beat... when I completely uninstall the drivers and restart the fan stays at it's normal speed. I have tried the last 3 previous versions of the driver and the 2 beta ones and each time after install and reboot the card goes back to full speed.

I know that it's only one card affected as I can still change the speed of the other fan.

Maybe it has something to do with windows??

You'd think that if it were Windows it'd affect both 260s. Do you gave any other apps that could be sending information to the card? MSI afterburner, ATT, Riva tuner etc.

The reason I ask is I just found an issue between Ati Tray Tool and MSI ab that caused my graphics card to crash and have the fan spin up to 100% when I opened a MS office program.

Uninstalled Rivatuner, still did the same thing. I downloaded the Nvidia system tools, would only let me change the fan speed for the other gfx card.

I have just taken out the gfx card that was fine and plugged the monitor into the one that was making all the noise turned on my PC and the fan is normal

OK, so this morning I delete all gfx drivers off my pc.

Let windows install the latest version of the nvidia drivers, I assume it used the files stored on my PC because it downloaded 154mb in 1 sec.

I then reset and checked it was the latest version and that I had the nvidia control panel in the right click menu.

Turned off my PC and put the card I had removed back in. Turned it on....

And it's fine now, fans are both at normal speeds...

It's good I know, but I want to know why :p

Maybe the reseat helped, a possible misconfiguration issue caused by a bad contact on the PCI-E interface causing the driver to misread the fan speed or something.
