Fan issue on GA-Z87X-DH3

Not sure where to ask this...

I am build a new system with a Gigabyte GA-Z87X-DH3 motherboard.
I have a front 230mm case fan on Sys-fan3, two 200mm fans on the top on Sys-fan2 and a single small one on the rear on Sys-fan1.

The fans that share a fan connector use splitters, but I am only using one of the white speed sense cables on each channel, other wise it seems to confuse the readings.

However - every fan, including the CPU fan (which is plugged in CPU-fan) are barely running. 250-500 RPM.

Nothing I do in either bios or the Gigabyte Easytune seems to make any difference to fan speed. In fact, since I asked it to calibrate the fans, they are running even slower.

Any ideas?

OK... Found the menu to drop the warning speeds on the fans...

But they still seem to run really slowly (as in <400 rpm) Had to set the warnings at 300 for all fans

I know the GA-Z77X-D3H and GA-H55M-S2H suffer the same problem.

Your options are (a) to set the fan headers manually everytime you boot into Windows using SpeedFan, (b) connect the fans to molex power or (c) use a fan controller.

So the issue is basically then that the 3x fans that came in the tower, and the Coolermaster CPU fan are all 3 pin and therefore not speed controllable.

Only 4 pin fans are.

Why the motherboard can't simply vary the 12v supply to the fans dependant on load I am not sure.

Oh well... sure ain't changing all those fans.
