Having just installed another GTX-680 for sli, it always buged me that the top card always runs 4c hotter even at idle.

So I thought I would post a pic of my mod that keeps the top card just as cool as the bottom card. If you look at the picture you will see a 92mm fan placed on the back of the top Evga GTX-680. this is a reference card that has 2 holes in the heatsink at the back that line up to 88mm

So I got a 92mm fan elongated the holes to 88mm and using 2 rubber spacers I screwed the fan to the back of the heat sink. sits nice and firm and no vibration on the rubber washers. best thing of all is now the top card not only idles at the same temp as bottom card but also under load there is only
1c difference between the cards now. also provides good cooling for the back of the bottom card.

You only need to screw into heatsink about 6mm so don't use 2" length bolts.

simple mod and does the job nicely keeping both cards at even temps

Antec spotcool does the same job. My old sli gtx 470 setup below.

Though prior to that things were more ghetto. Bootlace and cable ties with a spare case fan. I was on a shoestring budget.

Bth worked fine, enabling the cards to run within 1c of each other. Though the spotcool was a bit tidier looking.

Nicely done. I like that solution. I'd give it a go if I wasn't going to watercool. My top cards is a full 10 degrees hotter under load.

Well it only takes a few mins to do, I was also considering water cooling but iam going to wait now as this works so well.
