I just recieved a pre built sytem from ocuk.
Titan 8700i Pulse.
Very happy with everything except that its a bit loud.

I'm thinking i should have gone with a more silent option as it is in my living room.

Anyhow, i was wondering what my best options are with regards to reducing the noise.
The fan speed control does not appear to be working from the BIOS options.
I assume this is because the fans use a 3-pin setup, so not PWM ?

I do not know much about this truth be told.

So, do i buy some sort of fan controller OR replace the current fans with something that can be adjusted ?

Advice very welcome here thanks for reading ;)

Really?
I thought about that but i assumed if i couldnt do it via the BIOS then the software would have no chance.
I will install that and give it a try!
Thanks.

Yes i have seen a few bad reports regarding this AI Suite.

I'm a bit disappointed that i can't alter the fan speed from the BIOS.
The option is there - just nothing happens when i have it selected.

CPU and Chassis fans remain on Full no matter if i'm browsing the desktop or playing a game!

I'm gonna have to look at one of these controllers then.

If anyone has any other ideas or recomendations for fan controllers i'd be gratefull :)
Thanks

On that mobo the CPU header can only control 4pin fans, so thats why your CPU fans run at 100% all the time.
The mobo has 2 chassis fan headers that can be controlled somewhat if the fans are 3pin (can just reduce to 50% speed or something). Make sure the name on the BIOS (sys_fan 1 and 2 or something) is the same as the header the fans are plugged into.

For your CPU fan(s) there's not much you can do outside of a fan controller unless you replace the fan(s) with 4pin's.

I think its my CPU fan that's the problem.
Why didn't they just stick a 4-pin fan in there it would have made this so much simpler?

I am gonna have to find a suitable controller for my CPU fan then.

Any recommendations? I have never even looked at these things before and don't know anything about them really.

@Idleman
System has been on hours, just idling in a warmish room.
CPU is 30c
MB is 27c

Try speedfan before you give up doing it in software. You will need to set the fans to manual to allow speedfan to control them (it's buried deep in the menuus somewhere).

The ability to alter speeds will be totally dependent on the mobo though. I have an Asus P8P67 with 4 headers (cpu, chassis 1 & 2 and power). Chassis 1 & 2 can be controlled but are tied together. CPU can also be controlled independently, so I have 2 speeds I can alter (all but the CPU are 3 pin).

I ended up buying an Aquaero 5 LT and doing the job properly ;)

Just swap out the cooler fan for a 4 pin PWM model. I use two on my own asus board, (dual cpu headers) whilst the rest of my fans are on a controller. Unfortunately asus removed control for 3 pin fans on the cpu header some time back.

Was just about to say, all Cpu fans connected to my mobo have all been 3 pin. Never had a problem, still don`t.
But was`nt aware Asus had removed the ability to control 3 pin Cpu fans, on later mobos.
Although I am surprised Ocuk have not picked up on this, considering they built and tested the system. It seems strange, that they would fit a fan that is going to run at full throttle all the time.

The first asus board i discovered this on was an s775 p45 chipset p5q deluxe. Contacted them via support forum and was told they no longer supported 3 pin fan control. I can only assume that adding a PWM fan to the bundles would bump costs a little. But then is it not corsair fans supplied with the H series coolers as standard?

This is the only negative in the whole system.
Well built, nice and tidy, fast delivery ...

I have my pc on all the time when at home, i probably spend 80% of the time on windows desktop when using it.
As you can imagine this is quite a big negative.

I don't know anything about swapping out a fan.
I wouldn't know where to start to be honest.

Thanks for the links ;)

One of them will probably be my best option.
I can just turn up the fan control when i game i suppose.

What would happen if i did something CPU intensive and didn't turn the fan up?
It wouldn't cause any lasting damage i hope ?
I'd imagine it would lower the CPU speed if it reached a dangerous level.

Bump for an UPDATE.
After checking my system out it is connected as follows:

H60 pump connected to CPU_FAN
Fan blowing into radiator is PWR_FAN
Fan blowing out on back of case is CHA_FAN1

CHA_FAN2 is free.

The loud fan is coming from PWR_FAN.
This is runnning at a constant ~1850rpm

I dont know why they didnt connect this fan to CHA_FAN2.
I did try it and it is almost silent although constantly runs at only ~1200rpm

Temps 'seemed' fine when i swapped to the quieter header.

Anyone any thoughts or ideas on why OCUK have connected that fan to PWR_FAN ?

Could it be an oversight or does it seem correct ?
