Fan noise in SLI

I've just added another a second GTX 275 to my system for SLI.

This all works great but with one slight annoyance which is the fan noise.

If only 1 card is plugged in (and it doesn't matter which one), the fans will spin at 100% for about 10 seconds and then go to normal as the system is posting.

However, if both cards are plugged it, the fans continue to spin at 100% until Windows has loaded up the drivers at which point, presumably it's telling them to go back to normal.

Now this doesn't sound like too much of a problem, but I boot the system into other OS (Linux and OSX). This means that if booting into either of these systems, the fans are always stuck at 100%!

Is there a way to force these to just start up at a low fan speed and raise if needed like they do when plugged in independently?

I once had the same thing with a single 9800GTX+ which I ended up switching it to a PC that always runs Windows.

Do all GTX 275s do this in SLI? If not then perhaps a BIOS flash may be the fix if you can find a compatible one without the issue.

I don't care about the few seconds extra to load windows. The problem is that if I'm booting to a non-windows OS, the fan will constantly be on 100%

Then the issue is with Linux drivers. Maybe post in the Linux subforum?

Since starting this thread, I've seen the same behaviour on 2 different boards with SLI 260's in. Looks like the GTX cards have something in to tell the fans to go at 100% when there is more than one graphics card installed :(
