Fan not spinning: What would you do?

My sisters fan on her laptop has stopped spinning after i used a hairdryer to get the load of crap from inside her laptop.

Anyhow, i think that by doing this that ive somehow stopped the fan from not spinning. Its much quieter than it was before, and in Everest, the CPU temp is at 82 degrees!

I've phoned up Toshiba (EA60 Equim) and they said go to a local shop and see what they say. I asked them what to do if that wouldnt work and they said they would take a look. Now as the laptop was second hand about a year ago, i dont think it will be under warranty as i bet it is at least two years old by now.

Would you go to a shop or would i get ripped off massively? Or would you phone up Toshiba and get them to have a look at it, even if it isnt under warranty. My biggest issue with the latter is that they could fix it but then send me a huge bill when i get it back that i wasnt aware of.

Thanks fellas. :)

Do you feel confident to take it apart? Going by how it was caused, its possible that 'crap' has been forced into the fan and its clogged up, may just be a case of cleaning it. If its dead, it may be possible to pick up a spare fan from a parts supplier / auction bay to replace it...

Well i mean ive built quite a few PC's, but divulging into a laptop seems quite a bit risky. :(

I've actually found this guide

http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/ToshibaA65/satA65_1.htm

Explains how to take it apart. I mean im almost 100% sure it is out of warranty so ultimatly i have nothing to loose. Not sure how easy it would be to take it all apart go get down to the fan but...

My dad reckons toshiba will charge the roof, like a car dealer would.

Definately would, enough to make it not worth giving them it.
Does Toshiba offer any manuals on its website on how to take the laptop apart/replace bits?
It shouldn't be difficult, just get some good screwdrivers and take your time. :)

Fixed it :D

Took it apart using that guide (scary as **** doing it) :o

Even though there wasn't much dust that came out, there was a small piece that seemed lodged in the fan. Once removed, the fan felt easier to spin manually so i fired it up again.

Temps now at 46deg idle which isn't at all bad considering the age of the laptop and crap application of paste that would be applied.

Thanks for all your help. :)
