I'm using the latest nvidia drivers (158.18) and the GPU fan is fairly quiet when you boot into windows, but even half an hour after you finish gaming it refuses to slow back down to its normal speed. I'm pretty sure this is a vista issue, as it doesn't do it on XP.

Any ideas why this is so and how i can fix it?

Cheers

Don't nvidia have fixed fan speeds depending on state?

I remember my 6800U having 2D - 20%, Low Power 3D - 50% and High Power 3D @ 70% or something.

So yea, probably stuck in 3D mode.

The way ATi do it by temperatures is a far far far better system tbh.

The 8800's don't have 2D and 3D modes, the core/mem run at full speed all the time, and the fan speed is governed by the actual temps.

Afaik, at default settings, the fan runs at 60% up to 85c, then it scales up with the temps.

Check your temps after gaming, maybe the aero desktop is keeping them high, so the fan keeps spinning?
