Ok this is my current rig and would like a bit of advice where to position my fans please!

This is the Deep Silence 1 case with positions as follows:
2 x 120mm at the front
1 x 120/140mm in side panel
1 x 120/140mm at the rear (where CPU Rad is now)
2 x 120/140 at the top with chimney roof.

I also have a bitfenix recon fan controller so I will most likely wire that in and place temperature sensors round the case (advice on that too please :))

I would recommend positioning them at your face as otherwise your clothes may reduce the cooling effect. This does assume, of course, that you are dressed.

More seriously I am a big fan of front-to-back and bottom-to-top airflow ensuring that you have positive pressure inside the case (more blow than suck - so to speak, ooo-err).

I'd go 2 at the front, 1 at the back, 2 on the top is overkill, honestly 1 doing nowt but idle will shift anything sitting up top. Most important is try and see where the g card is exhausting, then pile fans that take that hot air away all around it! If I was you, I'd ensure the cpu rad fans were the intake, as the exhaust from them is maybe +1 or 2 C? whereas if they are sucking your internal air, it might well be +10 or more on room temp.

I have tried various setups, bare in mind I use an Air CPU cooler aswell. But found this setup best for me.

Exhaust = Back and Roof Back
Intake = Everything else, Front, Side and Roof Front

That might be a good idea. 2 x front, 1 top front(CPU RAD), maybe 1 side blowing onto gfx card and then 2 exhaust!!

Pretty much this.

With my setup I have it with 4 in, 3 out.

2 x 120mm front intakes
1 x 120mm floor intake
1 x 140mm side intake
1 x 120mm rear exhaust
2 x 120m roof exhaust (through rad)

My temps stay pretty low, even on load.
