Hi Experts:D

I just discovered EVGA Precision and have used it to set my GPU fans at 100% all the time. Both idle and load temps have dropped by quite a bit, CPU temp is lower too:)

My question is, Will having the fan at max all the time damage the fan or the cards?

Thanks

Any physical item over time will degrade faster the more you push it.

So yes having it at 100% will reduce the fan's life, however this amount of time is unknown. Its more likely it will start making horrible noises as it wears out, and you can just replace the fan before it fully fails, the card itself should not be adversely effected by a high fan speed.

isn't it horribly loud at 100% anyway ?

The lifepsan of the fan will be greatly reduced. As above the fan will just get louder due to bearing wear.

If you need to bring the temps down I find sticking a 120mm fan directly behind the card works wonders if you can't improve the air flow in the case.

I just realized that you can have profiles LOL. I made 1 with fans at 75% for windows and 1 at 100% for gaming. I think its a good comparmise.

Before I got precision, Dead Space crashed after 5mins, with fans at 100% it didnt crash at temps hit 85C max. Funny thing is, I paused the game for the phone and temps went right up and the game crashed with the driver stopped responding error. Turning on vsync fixed that and brought temps down a lot.

I find this odd. Any card from any vendor with fans on 100% and still getting temps of 85° ... that ain`t right, is it?

And about attaching fans elsewhere in yer rig, never discount the abilities of Blu Tack ... I have pics ;)
