I have just replaced cpu fan in my old machine to get rid of an old grinding noise. I have everest system tool and it shows only my cpu fan.

Everything was grand until the same old racket started again. It sounds like a whining noise from a fan but it obviously isnt the new cpu fan.

One thing I noticed was that sometimes a psu fan reading appears in my program. Then the racket starts. This was a different psu from my older one but still the same problem. Do you think a new psu would be needed or what would the noise be? Its driving me mad. At the moment it is on a quiet spell but it just randomly gets noisy. It isn't any of the case fans as I have them unplugged. Any ideas?

The graphics card fan is fine. What does a dying HD noise make??It definitely sounds like a fan noise but it is very rattly noise. Really cofused by it tbh.

i just noticed inside my case a small fan that I had never seen before. I think it is called the northbridge fan. Its about 40/50mm. Is it safe to disconnect this and not use it or should I replace it?

Thanks

Thanks for the info. I had already bought a new psu and changed cpu fan but only today did I see this wee beast. It is covered by a shield with Asus on it and only noticed when looking really closely that it was a fan behind it.

Mobo: 39
CPU: 36

I take it these temps are fine with the fans that are still enabled.
