Fan question

Hi there,

The cooling fan has gone in my dads Samsung TV, the replacement fan is £40+ but it looks remarkably like a generic PC fan, but modified to fit.

Could you please take a look and give me your opinions on this?

Looks very similar to me,the fan connector looks slightly different
As cheap as fans are i would try modding one before paying £40
Or maybe cut off the existing fan connector and splice/solder to new fan?

0.07A 12v, that is a slow moving fan, maybe 1500 rpm, something like that.

Defo go for the mod. You could pick up something for a couple of quid. A quick saw and solder later have yourself a nice cheap fix.

yeah, standard 3 pin fans have a layout of black (ground) > red (+12v) > yellow (tach), not R>B>Y.

its looks like an 80mm/92mm fan, so buy any generic PC equivilent, then use a small flathead screwdriver to ease the red/black wires out of the socket and swap them round

Thanks very much for the advice, I will hopefully get my hands on the faulty fan in the next 24 hours and get some measurements etc but it does seem possible.

The Tv has another fault on warm up, but this stops it working all together and the parents are getting on and cannot afford to pay another £800 for a new set 18months after buying this one.

Please keep popping your heads in in case i hit any snags.

Are you sure that wasn't because of the dying fan? You might get lucky and get two birds with one stone!
