After a lot of messing around with ati tool ive decided i cant be bothered overclocking my card atm

im still using a 1280x1024 monitor and theres no point until i get my dell 2407

so i went back to the cat 6.5's. but that means wheni load up ati tool to control fan speeds some games crash (ati tool and cat's dont get on) :S

ive tried using riva tuner to do the fan speed but it only lets me select auto or fixed speed. rather than enter my own variables. if i leave it upto the cat drivers BF2 gets to 89c :(

so what does everyone else use?

not too well up on ati tray tools. if i used them instead of cat's does it still switch between 2d and 3d mode?

will i have to disable the two services in msconfig?

cheers

its a utility rather than a driver AFAIK so you wouldnt need to use ATI Tool.

Used tray tools with my bro's X850pro and you can set speed percentages for different temps

well i got rid of the cat's and ati tool and im just using ati tray tools

but from what the overclocking part is telling me even on bf2 my clocks are still at 500/600, ie 2d mode

anyone?

I'd like to know this too. There seems to a lot of confusion surrounding the 2D/3D mode on the X1000 cards.

What exactly are the conditions required for this to work properly? Isn't just a case of a few processes running in the background controlling the switching of modes?

Here's how you do it:

Start>run>services.msc. Then disable ati smart and ati hot poller(can't remember it presicely :p ). OC in CCC won't work anymore. Now start ati tool and start clocking! You can add 3d detection! :D

i dont want to use ati tool though. all i want to use is ati tray tools and get my card running at stock

i would use the CCC but it doesnt control the fan good enough

Use omega drivers, they have an updated ATT which allow varible fan controls.

It also allows overclocking in X1900 series cards but voltages options arn't there so you still need ATi Tool if your going to overclock.

Conc - any distinct performance advantages using the Omega's over the bog standard Cat's for gaming ?
