Fan speed management question

Dear All,

I'm just wondering what you lot would recommend in terms of colling fan management software. Right now I'm using ITE SmartGuardian which came on my motherboard driver CD. However, I've been reading that it's a bit 'bloaty', so I'm considering my alternatives. A few questions:

MBM5 only monitors telemetry, right? I can't actually use it to set the speeds at which my fan runs at? The reason why I ask this is because I've tried setting it up in the Fans section of MBM (Minimal RPM of the fan - in the alarms section). However, it doesn't actually seem to have any effect on fan speeds.

What's the fan management software of choice in the forum? I've considered using just the BIOS to do this, but it either seems to run the fans at the lowest or highest speeds with nothing in between. IMO, this is more noisy than anything else what with fans ramping up and down to both extremes.

Maybe I'm wrong about MBM5 not managing fan speeds. If so, could someone enlighten me please? TIA.

I find ITE Smartguardian works well. What exactly is your issue with it?

TBH I'm clutching at straws to find a reference to some of the forums I've been reading overnight. It started with a post on the DFI forums from what seemed to be one of the admins announcing he'd made a 'new and improved' ITE SG because he'd found the standard-issue one to be innacurate and a bit superfluous in parts. This then led me to trawling the internet around various forums and I'd seen a few posts from people complaining about it.

I guess my answer lies somewhere in-between my night shift fatigued head and your question. However, 'just because someone else said it' wouldn't quite sound right. I think I'll stick with ITE. Thanks for the input.
