Fan speed query.

I currently manually set my fan speed to increase incrementally so as it's running at 100% when it hits the 60 degree's mark, the low 60's being the temperature my GPU gets up to under load.

I wandered, does this constant change of speed have adverse effects on the fan itself, i.e.decrease its lifespan? Or would just setting my fan to go to 100% when it gets to 45 degree's be better/worse(the GPU temp is between 37 to 41 degree's at idle, depending on room temperature)?

Any advice would be welcome, rig as per sig.

Cheers, dagwoood.

I wouldn't worry about the lifespan of a fan to be honest, you could always replace it if necessary. Personally I like my fans to be running at full whack all the time since it's the changes in speed and subsequent different sounds which annoy me the most. Constant hums I can get used to.

Thanks for the input HangTime.

As the cards only about three weeks old, I'm hoping there's a lot of life left in the fan anyway; I just wandered what sort of settings would be detrimental to it.

I know what you mean about constant hums , even quite loud ones, you don't notice it after a time. If something stops humming or hums differently though, you notice it straight away and you can start investigating what the problem is.

I keep my GPU fan on 100% all the time as it is no more noisy, besides it saves the fan having to keep changing speed all the time!

I also use the ATI Tool to alter the fan settings.
