Fan static pressures comparison

I need to get some fans with relatively high static pressures. Looking through the available fans on OCUK I see the tech lab golfs are rated at around 3.4, does anyone know how these compare to the scythe GT 1850's ?

I have been looking around and there doesn't seem to be any solid information. I find a lot of anecdotal reports all over the web where people generally say the GTs are the best in most situations.

I know they are a favourite with the watercooling community, but is this simply becaue of their 'reputation' and the fact they are alwasy touted as the number one choice or is it based on proper scientific testing ?

At the price of the tech lab golfs and the fact they have relatively high SPs compared to most of the 120mm fans I have seen, wouldn't they be just as good a choice for rad cooling especially if you have got high FPI of 20 + like on the HWL black ice stealth range ?

I got the 3 pack golf fans from ocuk for my rad and they are a proper bargin. got them when on special at like £6ish for 3 fans

they give their static pressure at max fan speed which is loud at 2000rpm but stick them on a fan controller and they become pretty much silent while still giving good airflow through the rad, which is a black ice stealth 240

Hi, using 4 of these in pull config on my 560 Black Ice.GT Stealth Rad -

Zaward Golf II Fan 140mm ZG2-140D - black
Dimension: 140 x 140 x 25mm
Fan Speed: 900±200 rpm
Bearing Type: Duro bearing
Max.Air Flow: 62.14 CFM
Noise Level: 13.9 dBA
Operation Voltage: 12V
Life Expectancy: 60,000 Hrs
Net Weight: 166g

What could are you running and what sort of temps do you see

Are you pulling to exhaust and what are the temps like

I am tempted to get these. My only worry was they might not be great in pull only. Due to space I need one of my dad's with pull to exhaust as its the only way it fits.

Those ratings are pretty much pulled out of Zawards backside.

*Edit*

To clarify my position on the above, the Corsair SP12 Performance Series High Pressure is designed specifically to trade off airflow to gain great pressure values, yet the £11 cheaper Zaward claims to have 13% better performance despite having a visually inferior blade design, colour me sceptical but I smell a whiff of Silenx here (Silenx was a fan manufacturer that was very popular in water cooling years ago due to their high CFM and low Db figures, until it came out the figures were all lies).

When I was on air (K2), I did compare the Scythe GT's to other fans such as Bitfenix spectre pro PWM/Alpenfohn wingboost/Thermalright TY-140 and a couple of others I can't remember.

Using a single fan at 1000rpm, the Scythes and the Thermalright were around 5 degrees ahead of the best of the rest with slightly less noise at that speed and a lot less noise at higher speeds.
They deserve their reputation IMO :)

I tried a pair of the 1850 rpm scythes and compared them to the sharkoon se 2000's some time ago, (same fan as the zaward golfs). The cooler used was a TRUE black, (one that benefits from high static pressure fans). Cpu at the time was a q6600 @3.8ghz. The gt's did cool better by about 2c, but i went with the se's as they looked a bit better. Currently running akasa piranhas on my k2, much better cooling than the earlier vipers despite being the same speed.

Ive never used those fans but i do hear a lot of people saying that zaward's figures are quite exaggerated. The best thing to do is to check out benchmark comparisons with a similar radiator, there is plenty out there. I will say after using GTs and SP120s that they are crazy good fans.

Most fans have greatly exaggerated cfm and static pressure specs.... Corsair included!

Zaward are good fans. Expecially for the price you can get them for.

Typhoon fan myself, whole case is kitted out with GT 14 & 15's. Took me a couple of years to make a set second hand on the cheap.

Those golf ball fans seem to do the trick especially at that price, you could buy a funky controller and still be under the price of a few gentle typhoons.

I do agree on fan companies exaggerating their results, best bet is youtube videos, with sound testing.

I have yet to install my w/c loop but having tested the fans on a rad (pack of 3 fans for £6) I can feel a good deal of air going through the rad, (black ice stealth 240) while being silent.

I dont have any other high static pressure fans to compare against but considering the price and performance/noise then they are a real bargin

Fans are pulling air through the Rad not Pushing it, mounted externally free standing.

At this moment with a room ambient temp 23'c, CPU Core's Temps Idle:29'c to 33'c, say playing BLOPS II about 55'c to 59'c and cooling my GPU in the same loop Idle:29'C, again playing BLOPS II about 48'c.

The 140mm fans oldphart is on about are far too large to be mounted on your rad. I bought some of the cheap 2000rpm Zaward fans and aren't all that quiet even running them at 5v.

I went for GT 1850's in the end. There seems to be a lot of field experience using them on these forums, thus common sense dictates that it must be more than fanboism.

Hopefully they arrive in my deliveries that are all due this week. Just need to work out how to hide a box full of rads, fans, coolant and various other lumps of metal from the missus :D. Now thats a project in itself !!!!
