Fan temp sudden increase?

Suddenly my q6600 overlclocked to 3ghz (1333fsb) went from an average of 3-4 weeks at 34c when last week it jumped to an idle temp to about 37-39!?!? (is this an ok temp btw?) ... the ambiant temp is the same as it was before. I built the rig about a month ago, when i was fitting the cpu fan i had to remove it and reposition (kinda smudging the thermal paste abit) could this be a reason? .. or should i just chill out lol no pun intend.

really wouldnt worry about idle temps (well mostly but yours are nothing to worry about) as long as it isnt going above 75c in primeload you are fine

ps. whats the temps on your 4ghz? very brave to be hiting that high on air lol hope its only for benching!

also need to know if smudging the themal paste when fitting could be the cause?

mine is 47'c max at idle, and thats stock!!!

going upto 70'c on high spec games

if u click the 4.023ghz in the sig will show the 8 hour prime can bench at around 4.3ghz on this CPU

as long as you didnt put 2 much on shouldnt worry about smudging.. paste will spreadout across the surface at any rate

wow your overclock is sweet whats your volts? (vcore/ftt fsb/sb/nb), you must have a killer vid (i ended up with the sucky 1.3250) yea i got a slight feeling it could be the paste because it just suddenly jumped temps last week, i gave my case a good clean and some cable management and its still the same. But meh i not gonna cry over it thnx for the help

ps. to others who may have a similar problem, i set all my case fans to the highest setting and now its dropped down to 35c!
