Hello, i recently bought a phanteks case and it comes with a built in fan controller which im having a little trouble with setting up.

The problem is i like my fans really quiet, but with the control wire plugged into the CPU header and the CPU Fan speed set to its lowest setting in the bios, its still running at 8-900 RPM, whereas i prefer about 500 rpm.

I tried plugging the control wire into the system fan header but after restart it just went to full speed, although im not suprised as the cpu header has its speed control wire seperate to the 12v accordong to the manual which i assume the fan controller is using.

If anyone has any experience setting these things up any help would be appreciated as ive used a manual fan controller for 15 years so i have no idea.

Cheers.

Im guessing most of you lot use manual fan controllers also :)

Nvm, ill just take apart my old fan controller and mount in the back sumwhere, this case is huge so it shouldnt be a problem.

edit: Found the answer eventually, ya have to disconnect the 12v supply from the fan hub if you run it from a CaseFan header instead of the CPU header then it works fine. Im not sure if its ok running 12 fans from one header though so im gonna take a few out and plug them direcctly into the other mobo headers.

I used to use the phanteks PWM hub, but when I switched to X99 I fitted a manual front bay controller. I never fiddled with the fan speeds in the BIOS, but I'm fairly sure my fans did spin down to 600rpm at idle.

yeah they spin down to 500 rpm now i removed the 12v sata supply to the hub. I guess it only needs that 12v supply if your using the CPU header as its wired differently.

edit: The fan controller works up to 7 fans at 500 rpm using one fan header to power it, once i add an either the fans become too slow and start stopping and starting constantly. Its not a problem though, just soldering some new wires now so i can add the other fans directly to the other fan headers.

Found a fantastic program called SpeedFan, you can set fan curves for everything. I've set it to turn off most my fans when im idle just leaving one rad fan on to keep the pump cool and one to keep a little air flow going through the case, then when the CPU temp goes up it starts up a few more fans, then when both the gpus are going it starts all the rest of hte fans and ramps up the speed as the GPUs start heating up. Great little tool.

I'm using speedfan and it works great. only issue i have is I can't go vertically (basically an on switch) my fans come on at 20% but if temp is lower i get a whine if its below 20% untill they power off.

yeah my fans do that if i run them directly from the motherboard, but im running them through a phanteks hub in the case and it has its own 12v supply, if u use this they will run very slowely without any noise, i guess its depends on the fans though, these 140mm case fans run down to 300rpm but my 120mm rad fans only run down to about 5-600rpm, but i cant hear them at that unless i put one of them right against my ear. The only thing making a noise now is the silly psu fan which developed a tick, ive ordered a new one though so i should be able to sort that soo, just having to run in eco mode for now so it doesnt annoy me.
