Hi

I currently have a Silverstone LC16 HTPC case which is suffering a bit from excessive fan noise. Currently it has two Akasa Amber 92mm fans in the front mount points and a Akasa Amber 80mm fan in the side mount point..

Now I have several spare Noctua 120mm NF-S12 fans which come with an extra cable (Ultra Low Noise Adaptor) which you put in line with the fan to drop its voltage (i think) to thus slow it and hence make the fans even quieter.

The 120mm fans are far to big for the case, (and were bought for something else where their stock levels would be fine), so does anyone know if these extra cables that come with them could be used with the Akasa Amber files to have the same effect?

Cheers

i cant see why they wouldnt work... you can only but try! I had an akasa amber running on 5V, worked fine, but it appeart to start spinning about 3-4 seconds after initally pushing the power button on.
You wont do any damage to the fans or your system, so just go for it.

yellow = 12v
red = 5v

move the current 2 pins on the fan to the other side (one to black one to red)

use a tiny screw driver to looses the molex teeth
