Fan Upgrade

Thermalright Ultra-120 is one of the best, if not the best air cooler. It is very expensive though at £35 and then you need to put a fan on it.

AC Fan 12 PWM is the best 120mm fan for 120mm CPU cooler duty as it's a 4-pin High Frequency PWM fan and it can be properly controlled from the BIOS.

Alternatively Yate Loon 120mm are the quietest real-world noise fans.

It is impossible to compare fan cfm and dBA specifications as they are all measured in different ways. dBA means nothing without a distance - it should be quoted as "dBA at 1m" as an example. Fan CFM figures also mean nothing unless the resistance is quoted. The Noctuas are very quiet but they have a very low air pressure so they don't push the air, but they don't push it very hard so the air speed is low and less effective.

SilenX quote some mental figures, but the LED ones are rubbish in the real world.

Arctic Cooling, Acoustifan, Yate-Loon (Panaflo) are all very good compromise fans in that they are properly quiet and push a respectable amount air quite hard. Akasa Ambers have a good reputation but the quality is a bit variable and some are better than others. Noctuas are extremely quiet but as I said before they have a problem pushing hard enough to be effective. Scythe S-Flex are said to be a decent fan, but I have no experience of those.

Cough[Nonsense]Cough

It is why I made a point of saying according to them :p

I still think they are good fans though judging by the performance increase one gives to a ninja if used to replace the stock fan.

The S-Flex are supposed to be good too going off what I have read here.

Been having a look at all of the ones you have mentioned the only thing that concerns me is that

Scythe Ninja,
Noctua
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro
Silenx

the only problem with them is that they seem to all follow the same design of having to need you to take the motherboard out to be able to fit it.

Don't get me wrong I need a powerful fan and heat sink but is there something in between a hs that takes up half your case space and bolts through your mobo (didnt realise how big hs could get until I saw this....http://hardwarelogic.com/articles/reviews/cooling/Cooler_Master_Gemini_II/installed_top.jpg) and something as puny as the stock intel hs and fan ?

Some of you mentioned coolermaster which model is it that you use ? I also encountered another make called a Zalman or something like that. They looked more powerful and used pipes but still retained the standard shape so would be relatively straight forward to fit.

Thanks again for your help guys

the arctic cooling freezer 7 uses push pins so there is no need to remove the mobo to fit it, it is a very good cooler, i have my E6300 at 3.2GHz with it and load temps at 45c

Mid 70's is the max i'd hit as you don't know how hot your room temps will be, especially with Summer coming along.

Sharkoon`s are also a good choice

+1, i have 7 in my system, 6x120mm (Silent Eagle 2000), 1x80mm (Silent Eagle 2000). Undervolted to 5V they are dead quiet, and still cool well, and you can ramp them up if need be.

Is that accurate? I was always under the impression that anything over 60C is warm and above 65C toasting and 70C+ downright bloody suicidal!

Had a look at both the AS7 pro and the Ninja they both look pretty good and similar in design. I have also had a look in my case to see how much space Im going to have to fit it and there is loads. Looking on their sites it looks like the ninja has been replaced with what is called NINJA PLUS Rev.B. The original Ninja has been discontinued not that there looks like there is a lot of difference just an extra pipeline or two.

I found this review http://www.silentpcreview.com/article285-page5.html

Which compared the two.

I'm going to give the Ninja a try and hope that it fits and that I don't have any problems installing it.

Thanks Guys

Yes, you're in Intel country now. None of this cool running AMD nonsense.

Just received some Hiper 120mm case fans which are supposed to do about 60CFM @ 20db. Any experience of these WJA96?

mine happily ran at 80c for about 7 hours when i wasn't looking :D didn't fail orthos during that time either... and it wasn't throttling... had to switch trousers though when i saw it :eek::eek:

EDIT: oh yeah, i swear by silenX fans *cough* fanboy *cough*

Wow if that's the case I might see about notching my OC up a bit when I have some free time! I know my E6600 can do more but I was getting close to 60C.
