Fan Y Splitter (PWM)

Hi,
I am slightly confused. I have the EK Water Blocks EK-Cable Y-Splitter 2-Fan PWM (10cm) but I am not sure why one of the male ends has 3 pins ( [X] [X] [ ] [X] ) (one in middle is missing) whereas second male has 4 pins ( [X] [X] [X] [X] ).. what is the difference and which one should be connected where?

Doesn't make a difference which way it's connected

The missing pin is the RPM cable, you can only have one RPM signal back to the motherboard so the other connector on the splitter is blanked off
