Everyone always cites the MOBO awards in this kind of debate but aren't they focussed on hiphop and RnB (which are of black American origin)? I believe white people have won MOBO awards in the past?
How about British ex-patriots living in Spain, France, Greece, etc? What effort do they make to integrate, to learn the language, to embrace the culture?
I know a lot of '2nd generation immigrants' and they're all just as British as I am.
It seems to me that people want something to hate. Whether it's 'native' British hating immigrants, immigrants imagining discrimination where none exists, religious conflict, class divide I think we're all as bad as eachother.
One point the Christian religion makes very well (although it's not practised much) is "love thy neighbor" and "love your enemies". Embrace cultural differences, don't be afraid of them.
The idea being propagated that Muslims want to blow you up, oppress you, kill you is actually quite scary. To answer a previous poster's question, yes I believe it came about after 9/11. It really makes you think... how many of you have read 1984?
