Fanless Gfx card

Have a 8800GTS that blew up, still works without drivers.

Would like a replacement but I dont play games anymore, so really looking for quietness and so would like a fanless gfx card of a similar standard?

Surely this must be possible seeing how old 8800gts is?

Yes, type in silent/passive graphics card and there are quite a few results.

Think the highest performing one was a 560ti phantom.

If you don't have any requirements for gaming then you could use the motherboard's onboard graphics, it it has any.

Failing that you could buy something like a HD 5450 from £21.59 here:

Agree, I have built a couple of PC's for people the last year with the ASUS 5450 and they are great little cards for HTPC or home computers.

They are favourites with HTPC builders as they decode HD video/Blue Ray playback very well and they cost near enough nothing in GPU terms.

Lol yea, will be better as the HD5450 is newer than the older 8800GTS, plus it has a HDMI port on it, so there is a brucie bonus for ya!

For what?

The HD 5450 is really quite unsuited to anything other than the lightest of gaming.

But you did say you don't play games.

If all you need is a card to produce a display then the cheapest will do.

This page compares the HD 5450 to a range of graphics cards in gaming benchmarks. The 9800GT shown in the graph is slightly slower than the 8800GTS (assuming it's a 512MB model, if it's a 320MB or 640GB model then the 9800GT is a bit faster).

As you can see, the 5450 is significantly slower than the 8800GTS, however if you don't plan to play games and only need to do basic desktop stuff and play HD videos then it is fast enough, silent and cheap.

If you want more power then this passive HD 6670 is roughly as powerful than the 8800GTS and this passive HD 6850 is significantly more powerful, though not cheap.

Well I do play games, I just dont care about the graphics or I might play an RTS online or CS every once in a while, for example I played BC2 all on low
