Hi all, I'm a WC newb..

I am thinking of making one of my PC's completely fan free, its not a mean machine as I do not play many games on it. (P4 Northwood 3Ghz - GForce 4200ti).

I would prefer to do the radiator DIY i.e. Not a zalman reservator or equivilent as I don't want to spend hundreds on a radiator.

Will be buying the CPU and Video Blocks pipes and pump. does anyone have some recomendations on what make/model blocks would be best

Has anyone water cooled power supplies?
Do any members have a Fanless WC setup?

Advice would be much appreciated.

I think you'd be very happy with some good air cooling. If you haven't used modern heatsinks and fans you won't know just how quiet they can be.

Get a nice big heatsink (Scythe Ninja or Thermalright ultra 120) on the CPU.

Put a Thermalright HR03 or Zalman VF900 on the graphics card.

Get a quiet PSU like a Seasonic or Corsair.

Put your hard drive in a Silentmaxx enclosure or suspend it with bungee cord.

Stick 5V Yate Loon Fans on everything.

That'd probably save you loads of money over a custom WC system, and the chances are you won't hear it.

You can buy pre-built WC PSU's however they are underpowered by todays standards and expensive.

Fanless rads - it would need to be fairly big if there is no air flowing though it to dissipate the heat effectively. This is especially so as you would be planning on having a fan free pc therefore WC chipsets/cpu and gpu, memory etc Lot of heat being dumped into a loop there.

Hmm, yes I must admit not really thought about the other stuff, I suppose the psu fan cycles the air in the case cooling it all.

Maybe a case cooling fan may be a neccesity :(

The nexus/ yate loon d12sl-12 at 5v is inaudible from 30cm.
Even at that low speed the difference in temperatures and airflow between that and no fan is massive.

My advice: Buy yourself a nexus or yate loon d12sl-12 and a 5v resistor, and try it out. You'll be shocked at just how quiet these things are.
