Hi,

Recently bought a laptop and have noticed that when I play Battlefield 4 on it the fans obviously ramp up however when I close the game and the graphics card and CPU return to their usual temperatures the fans stay at the level they were at during Battlefield game-play.

Anyone know how to get it to automatically down speed when it seems appropriate? Failing that just being able to manually decrease them would be nice too.

The temp that makes the fans go fast is often different from the temp that makes them go slow again. Does it eventually return to normal? If not then it's probaby a bug or something.

It never eventually returns to normal which is the problem. The CPU fan stays at 100% once the game closes even once the CPU returns to around 40 degrees. Does seem like a bug.

@Speed I've checked the manufacturers website and there isn't a bios update.

Have you tried looking at the temps using coretemp/realtemp/gpu-z to see if the temperatures are actually dropping back to sensible levels?

Yes like I was saying in the previous posts the temperatures for the CPU are returning back to normal levels I checked this with MSI Afterburner software.

Missed that, I wrote that post long before I pressed the submit button! Can you control the fan profile using afterburner or similar?

It might be the case they keep the fans running on for certain length of time to ensure all heat dissipated from the unit, even though the the core temps are back to normal there might be residual heat left.

I'll test it again tomorrow, I'll leave the laptop on for a good hour after Battlefield 4 is closed and see what happens as I only left it for maybe 20 minutes last time but I guess that was another.

I'll try speedfan first thing after work tomorrow and report back.

Ok so Speedfan did the trick! Extremely happy thanks AbbotsMike for the suggestion. With Speedfan there is a tickbox for "Automatically adjusting fan speed" and with that ticked my fans resumed back to normal state about 3-5 minutes after I closed Battlefield 4.

Thanks again.
