Hey Folks,

In a bid to plough more airflow into my Corsair Obsidian 800D case. It actually seems to be ok and my system has reasonable temps. The GPU seems ok too at load, but I'm contemplating SLI in the future and think it will struggle to keep 2 x 580's cool. I know the 800D isn't a great Air case but it might be with a few modifications. This is the start of the process.

Currently using the H80 for my CPU (pulling cool air into the top of the case), the intel i7 2600k. I will be replacing the stock fans on that at some point.

I'm looking at the 140mm Ultra Quiet Viper Cool fan as an intake (bottom of the case). I'm not sure what the stock corsair fan pushes but I know it is very little.

I also want to mount 3 x Akasa Venom Viper Cool Fans on the top of the case, exhausting the hot air out.

A few questions. Are these fans going to be ok/compatable if I use a Fan contoller on them. Do people think there will be a significant difference with these
fans in the configuration described?

For instance say this controller

That should be fine in regards to the fan + controller. Back in the day when my 580s were in SLI the temps were reasonable top card topped out at 88* while bottom was 79* do you have reference 580s?

It might be worth modding the side panel of your case so that there in an intake fan on the side to further help cool the cards.

Not reference unfortunately, MSI Lightning 580. Tis a beast but I'm very happy with it. Keen to see two of them. Yeah mate was actually looking into modding the side of the case. Either sourcing the windowless side panel or just getting a stronger PVC for the window. Considering 2 x 120mms. Fans to be decided but possiby more of Akasas. You think 120's would be sufficient? or go larger? 1 x 200 mm?

I was contemplating watercooling though don't like the idea of using a universal cooler. I like stuff to be right. Would prefer a tailor made one. Like I say I'm considering SLI anyways. May hold off until the next gen and SLI them depending on how they fair.

when i had my 800d i put mesh on the side of the case and it dropped the tempo's down quite a bit.

might be worth a think :)

Had, you got rid? it's a magic case, I love the size of it and it looks awesome. However tis in need of some modding to get better air into it. haha, like fly screen mesh? That is something to consider. As a side panel or the front of the case?
