So I think I've finally sussed out my random restarts and issues, last week I found some old Scythe Kaze Jyuni 1900rpm fans, I remember they had extremely good airflow so I stuck 3 in my case to replace stock corsair fans, 2 of them went into the fan controller and 1 connected to a fan header on the mobo. Shortly after is when I started experiencing issues and after doing a quick search a reviewer on amazon said these things can draw too much power from some mobo fan headers, 0.74 amps I believe.

Does this sound right or am I just clutching at straws for things to blame :p

I think your clutching at straws, I once ran 9 scythe gt from one fan header, yes it was only temporary and all was fine.

I doubt it would have an effect on the stability of the board unless you were already at the very edge of your psu. More likely you would just blow the caps next to the fan header:)
