can someone recommend some fans for a push pull setup on my true 120? I have read abot the scythe's but I really can't bring myself to spend £12 on each fan ... other suggestions please?

thanks!

I only have the one fan, is there any reason you need 2?

Mine cools good enough for my Q6600 at 3.7Ghz, 63 C on full load.

I've just read about this "push pull" system where one fan forces air onto the heatsink, another draws warm air way to generally a rear case fan to remove it from the case.

This is a rather genius way of mounting i just found while looking for an image to show mr x;

Looks simpler than using the brackets.

what about 2 x 120 xilence red wing fans? I can get em for £5 each and they're low noise 21db and high cfm, 68.

I think that Xilence's claims of such a high CFM are slightly exaggerated from what i have read about them.

They are very quiet though.

For a low speed, quiet setup 2 fans are better than one cos the fins are quite close on the true and there is resistance to the air flow and there is a low pressure generated by each fan which work together .. think blade speed and turbulence :) ... and they work well for higher speeds too I believe!

I actually fitted my fans opposing each other a few days ago - I noticed CPU temps up by a few degrees and my system/pwm down by a few!! So, the air was being blown in and out th esides : Lol! :)

When I had water cooling I had fans mounted piggy back style pulling air through the rad - this was definitely better than a push pull arrangement which was in turn definitely better than a single fan either side .. I don't have the numbers to hand but I did a lot of experimentation back then and that was my conclusion!

Not sure Clair but I just ordered me an E8400, I have a true 120, 2 x 120 hiper fans and a premier lapping kit. =). Do you just lap the true or cpu also?

Lap the CPU and the TRUE.... I tried the push pull setup and it resulted in effectively 0 difference to my temperatures but was a lot more noisey.... IMO your better spending your money on 1 decent fan than 2 average ones.

Well most the comparisions I have seen using a two fan vs one fan setup have been using lower RPM fans (1200 - 1600RPM) and on conservative clocks (3.4-3.6) has resulted in maybe a 2-3c difference in load temps

I use the noctua pf-12 on mine. Becuase the TRUE only comes with one mounting bracket, I had to improvise and use a ....laccy band.

I Have lapped the TRUE recently like the Monday just gone but with this week being wamer in general it hard to say for sure what difference it has made if any.
