I have an MSI GTX 2060 running on a gigabyte z370p mobo and i5 9600k cpu. Whenever I load a game the fans on the gfx card spin up to max over 3000rpm. If I set a profile in MSI afterburner it seems to get over ruled by something and the card goes from quiet to airfield mode, any ideas? I have tried uninstalling MSI afterburner but it was the same result. I'm debating a full system reinstall but worrying the card maybe faulty.

Just formatted the PC but same result, fire up PUBG and fans max out straight away, quit game & fans go back to minimal/idle.

Got a similar problem albeit only with Battlefield 1 in campaign mode, the fans are fine in multiplayer as they are in everything else I've tried.

Still wading through the deluge of replies..... :p

Thats strange you only get it in one game. My issue seems to be as soon as the card gets over 70c is fans at max, I've contacted MSI suport who have told me that the fans will spin faster at 60c then slower at 50c, I went back to them saying it was fine until around 70c, their reply was use afterburner. I went back again stating I had already told them I used afterburner & attached screenshots of a test fan curve no faster than 40% until it hits 80c plus graphs & hwmonitor stats. I also pointed out others on their support forums have this issue and what should I do, their reply was to download 3D mark and run it to see the results how to use. I have translated that to "We havent got a clue mate".

Maybe replace the thermal compound and pads under your heatsink with something better ?. I did this on my old 980ti using 'Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut' and also hacked out part of the fan shroud to make it easier for hot air to get out. Dropped my temps 23c !!!!

I've had these issues over the past year, both with Nvidia and AMD cards.

AMD - if I installed Afterburner on my Vega 64 it would conflict with AMD's own fan controller and not spin the fans up at all. Leaving me with a Vega 64 that could literally blister you (and it was a Devil).

Workaround - install just the GPU driver, lose Freesync and VSR etc.

Nvidia - same sort of issues with AB. Precision X works much better, but if I enable an overlay no 3dmark stuff will start. It just crashes back to Desktop telling me I interrupted the benchmark.

Workaround - use Precision X and disable the overlay and server.

I suspect the issue is it needs some new thermal paste on the gpu. Its gone back for repair today and I have since picked up a new card which is working fine so issue is definitely with the card. Will see how the repair goes, cheers guys.
