The reason my last season's team was poor was because i spent 12 mil on ronaldo, I basically had 3 star players, 9 average ones and 3 rubbish ones that never plays in the bench. So I had to make a lot of sacrifices for 1 player, yes it's nice when he score, but he doesn't score every week relying on 1 player for most of your points every week soon becomes clear to me that is unhealthy and dangerous. Also, I have 15 players who all play, and sometimes I have to put players like Elano, Cahill or Distin on the bench because I think the others will do better.
The good thing having him in your side is that he is and I don't question that is Ronaldo is a consistent performer, he makes things happen. So if you have him in your side it is often the logical and only choice to make him your captain. For more reason than not, most of your peers will do the same, by not doing so will means you'll get 50% of the points, and if he doesn't perform then you go down with everyone else anyway.
Without him in the side, means every game week i have to make a decision on who to make my captain. I have to look at the fixture list a lot more, consider the form of each players, the opponent they are up against and whether they are playing at home or not. This week making Fabragas as Captain as opposed to Tevez didn't pay off as who'd thought they would struggle against Birmingham ? BEfor ethe game there was a much chance on Arsenal do well as much as Man United, certainly at half time things were looking good.
Hopefully over the course of the season (16 games left), my decisions won't come back to bite me on my ass as I am top of my league with my friends at the moment and high (top 3 in the last month) in the OCUK league. It's not like my own theory hasn't been right either.
