please ride better than the people i seen today.

your bike (for the most part) has 6 gears. Use them.

do not stick it in 6th, then go for an overtake at 50mph and the bike doesn't accelerate quick enough so you need to avoid a car head on.

the amount of people i seen riding sensibly today was impressively bad. if you feel the need to overtake on a 60mph road - do it quickly and do it safely. Don't make a splat on a cars bumper.

Summer riders mate, they all suddenly appear!

Biggest thing I notice is it brings out the 'I'm too awesome to wear protective gear' riders, who just love riding along in their T-Shirts, Shorts and Trainers... May as well forget the lid as it's pointless trying to protect a virtually naked body..

A few weeks ago when we had the sunny spell I saw several groups of idiots that had obviously dusted their bikes off from last summer and gone straight out with all their idiot mates. One big group all stopped at a set of lights by doing barely controlled stoppies one after the other. I'm certain they won't get through the summer without at least one serious accident, most likely involving several of them.

Saw another group all riding like ****ing idiots, as a biker it honestly made me cringe as I watched them approach in my mirrors. It was so obvious that they had no idea about...well, anything. Too busy trying to look cool and fast on a 70mph dual carriageway A-road that they came close to getting clouted about three times, and I only watched them approach for about 30 seconds.

Drives me mad. This is why bikers, especially sportsbike riders, have such a bad name. Because of these ****ing idiots arsing around and getting themselves killed all summer long.

I drove from Liverpool to home last night, I saw about 150 people on bikes, enjoying the Welsh roads, two or three with death wishes

Was in the gf's Fiesta, so just pottering along at 60 most of the way. The majority were driving the other direction and at least twice if I hadn't moved further to the left, they would have gone straight into the car.

It seemed when they were in big groups, they'd take silly risks to stay in their group

I think this is a massive part of it - I ride alone basically all the time, occasionally with my dad. I don't ride stupid because I'm not trying to keep up with anyone faster than me.

Most of the stupid riding you see is people either trying to keep up with their faster mates, or trying to show off to their mates.

I wish I had gotten a picture of it now.

Guy on an R6 with his wench on the back Him In just a pair of shorts and trainers and his wife in little hot pant type shorts and a bikini top.

Only helmets to.

I couldn't believe it.

Well.... I'll go against the grain here and say I've ridden with shorts and t shirt a few times, BUT only if I'm pootling about town (ie: 20-30mph tops). 99% of the time I'm in full leathers though.

I wouldn't wear full leathers to ride a pushbike at 30mph, so whats the big deal?

I'd like to see you keep a steady 30mph+ on a push bike.

30 mph doesn't seem that fast, till you come off and you've got a 200KG bike laying on top of you sliding down the road. I never wear anything except a 2 piece for a short stint around town, or a full piece when I'm off for a longer ride.

Because when you fall off your pushbike you won't have a 200 kilo motorbike on top of you while you slide down the road?

And it won't land on you and smash your knee or your ankle or your head.

I ride in jeans sometimes too, only ridden without my jacket once. I don't like to ride without boots on ever, or gloves. Around town I'll wear jeans but it's very rare I will go without boots and I don't think I've ever ridden without gloves.

You can wreck your hands/feet/ankles at low speeds, but abrasion wise I think you'll get away with it at low speeds. I know I shouldn't but I do do it sometimes. Any trip that's not purely around town though it's always draggin' jeans at the least. I ride often enough to make it worth it, the odds go further away from you the more riding you do.

Strangely enough having read this thread last night - I saw a perfect example of it today on my way to work :S pack of riders overtake me and a car infront of me, but theres one straggler and just before he pulls out to overtake a car pulls out of a sideroad coming towards us, but he still decides to go for it... the car pulling out has no where to go and if it wasn't for the guy infront of me being bang on alert and hammering the brakes he'd have clipped the biker as he pulled back in, as it was there literally wasn't an inch to spare either side between the car he was overtaking and the car pulling out the sideroad, with the speeds involved he'd have at the very least been seriously injured.

To be fair seeing as he'd waited for the others to pass before pulling out it would probably have been a fair assumption the last rider was gonna go for it too but I'm not sure how much he could see from his angle before pulling out - and you don't really expect someone to try overtaking when your already pulling into their path.
