If you’re a commuter like me and get fed up with continuous delays then don’t let the operating companies get away with it. Under the passengers citizens charter act, you are entitled to some compensation. They make enough profit as it is and not all this is reinvested into the service.

If you register with traindelays.co.uk, they notify of every “delay repay” that you are entitled to by email. You can then make your claim by filling in a relevant form from your network.

Each year we are promised a better, reliable service, more trains and more seats. This is so they can justify their fare increases but we all know that’s rubbish. Last year, “one” railways” increased there fares as much as 10% with exactly these promises yet the service is getting progressively worse and worse. This year, they have announced another fare increase of 10%. It costs me £2,700 pa as it is so this is a **** take really.

The line I travel on Chelmsford to Liverpool street has at least one or two serious delays each week. In September, we were caught 3 days running for more than 3 hours each time. One of which, the service was abandoned and we had to make our own way home This week already I’ve been delayed for an hour yesterday and an hour this morning. Seats on trains are becoming increasing difficult to get and trains are often 4 carriages shorter than normal.

All the time you don’t claim they are laughing the other side of their faces. You have your rights.

haha nope, why's that?

It's hald a rant at the railways companies and to let any commuters here that they can excercise their rights. Personaly i'm fed up with these monopolised companies take the buscuit.

"One railway would like to thank you for travelling with us today"... hmm like we have a choice :p

I missed my train the other day because the ticket monkey insisted on filling out a refund form for a day of strike action.

On the day in question I got to work earlier than usual because there were less stops and there were more than enough seats.

More strike action I say.

last time i took the train to london they shot everyone off a few stops before with no instructions what to do :/

had done the same to every other train too . took an hour and a half to get from the platform to the roadside it was so busy

felt sorry for the carriage full of german school teachers and kids, probably still stood on that platform looking lost now

How exactly is it a tax? Its a private company charging you for a service, it may well be a crap service but then no one is forcing you to use it.

I make the journey from Wolverhampton to Reading every other weekend.

I got kicked off the train once at Banbury along with everyone else and no reason was given. Two trains travelling to the same place were later stopped at Banbury and they were left on the platform with us. We were told coaches were being sorted. So with around 400 people stood on the platform waiting for over 3 hours most decided to just get a taxi and claim the money back off Virgin.

It was a bloody joke at the time, I was so angry.

The return journey is a pain too. It travels to Manchester Pic. and by the time we reach Oxford, (1st stop after Reading), the train is usually full and people are having to stand. It's like this all the way to Wolverhampton and I doubt it improves for the people travelling further north.

Well if I lived in France it would cost be a whole lot less and I would get a much better service (actually true for most European countries actually), our Government doesn't fund our public transport services to the level it should.

Rail is the only option as the roads into London are so congested and getting a coach would be unworkable so the only other option is rail.

No one if "forcing me to use it" true but what alternatives do I have?

No, there are plenty of other options, not working in London is one.

EDIT: And why should may taxes subsidise your rail journey? Would you subsidise my petrol costs as I drive to work? Thought not.

Right lets live in the real world for a second, most people that work in London commute, if you haven't noticed buying property in London is a little expensive!

I do the Barnet to Moorgate route on first capital connects, however Barnet is within travelcard zone so i get my ticket from tfl (zone 1-4) instead of paying direct to the rail company.

Do i still quality for a discount on delayed services? probably not since i know how tight the train companies are, yesterday was horrific, even worse than the underground which made front page in the standard.

Correct. However you missed my point. It is still your choice to work in London, regardless of how you commute.

Correct, I got "on my bike" and got a good job for a decent firm, so the fact that I and countless millions do the same is somehow our fault is it, you have to go where the work is I'm afraid!

Because your car can't carry 600 people to London in 50 mintues can it, a good public transport system in one of the richest nations in the world shouldn't be too much to ask!

Get the train from Ipswich - Felixstowe 5 days a week.

Have missed loads of driving lessons because of the train's running late (£20 a time)

Prices just keep rising. (£3.70) 10min journey.

Actually my rail fare was put up 15% in january, purely on the basis that all of the extra revenue generated goes to improving public transport in the north, tell me how thats fair?

Lets be honest, the only way money travels in this country is from the South-East outwards, if anything our rail fares and taxes are sudsidising your local transport system, saying that your taxes are subsidising Londoners is ludicrous, its one way traffic.

I live in the South East too (not London though)!
