How much are you paying for additonal disks? And what SAN?

Just got a quote for 8 x 750GB drives with licenses and software and its over 11.5k :o Thats for a 3PAR.

Thats over £1300 per disk!!!! :p

That doesn't sound terribly surprising, I've never paid that much but 3par are expensive, last time we got anything it was more 500GB drives for an HP EVA, they were £550 or so each as I remember...

Do you have a breakdown, I suspect licensing it where you're getting stung if that's applicable (or support is another option)
 
It maybe be 1300 per disk but warranty and what licensing are you adding as well? I just added some 450GB 15K FC disks to a SAN and they work out with warranty (but not software as we are unlimited) at around that price.
 
This is common - As already said, it's not just the cost of the actual drives.

Often there is software costs. There will definately be hardware maintenance costs (more drives = more chance of failures = more call outs to swap drives).
 
Thats sound right to me.

We had some quotes for some 300GB FC disks for an EMC Calriion CX3-20 a couple of months back. They worked out at about £1100 each if i remember correctly.
