FAO: FirebarUK - your Linux desktop

Hey all.

Its running in Crossover Office (normal Wine should do it too though). I found version 4.9 to run the best (i.e; everything I've tried in it works, music store, purchasing music - the lot). Don't forget that v4.9 isn't THAT old, seeing as Apple jumped from 5.1 or something into 6.

As for those wondering about SLED 10, I have to say its absolutely rock solid. This is release candidate 2.5 and its amazing how stable it is (compared to OpenSuSE 10/10.1 at least). Its not resource hungry either.

Deano asked how well it integrated with Windows, the truth is I haven't tried personally (see below) although if your running eDirectory netware stuff it will come shipped with the Novell Client. The only snag being that when I asked some of the development team they mentioned that the client is a 2nd logon type thing, so your Linux home directory in /home remains there, it isn't centrally on your netware server. They haven't quite set down some solid groundwork on how to do this yet.

It will also ship with iFolder client and iPrint client (makes sense). The beagle integration into the desktop is just brilliant and F-spot photo browser is great!
If anyone wants me to try anything on it let me know, or post up some more screenshots.

For those integrating into AD I've seen it work brilliantly through samba in a couple of Brainstormer lectures, very easy to set up in Yast too.

This has to be my favourite distro to date simply because of its lovely usability, which is a great point for trying to replace those 2k/XP boxes ;)

Oh, and xgl is beyond easy to enable :D
