Bit of a heads up,

There is a known issue with this combination. I’ve had it running since release but this afternoon, after a reboot, every single internet application crashed on start-up except for IEx64, it was cringe worthy using to find the problem :p . Only an uninstall of NOD32 allows you to return to normal, I’ve yet to reinstall but others have and resumed usual service, reoccurrence of the issue isn’t known.

Might be worth using something else or informing those less literate on the procedure to take if this happens to them, the main reason I’m adding this here is if anyone does a search with the problem this should turn up. It took me quite a while to find how to fix it and OcUK was my first port of call, hopefully this will help someone at some time.

OcUK forum search terms (Sorry, not sure if this breaks the rules, it’s not listed but I can see it being added at some point if lots of people started using OcUK as a knowledgebase like this)

Internet applications crash on startup, Firefox crash on startup, Nod32, IE64.

Fantastic, I think this may explain the issues I've been having with 32bit IE as I went through in a thread I posted earlier on this evening.

I'll uninstall NOD32 and see what happens. Thanks for posting that one eLbot, very useful.

Although I'm not doubting your findings - there must be something that is actually causing this to happen.
I have a long NOD32 license (bought a 3yr, 3 workstation one about a year ago) so when I moved to Vista64 I of course started using NOD.

I have two machines right now running Vista64 and NOD32 - one has been since December, one has been since February.
Neither have had any episode as you described.
Have you e-mailed Eset about this and see what they have to say?

I was exactly the same mate, nearly 4 months of everything running spot on, and then all a sudden it's gone to the dogs. After reading through eLbots post it does fit perfectly with my symptoms and as the ONLY thing I've not removed/re-installed to try and fix the issue is NOD32 logic would say that's the issue.

Of course, it could have nothing to do with it at all, I'll report back tomorrow.

I'll email them tomorrow, just finishing off some coursework tonight. I'm in much the same situation as you so want a full explanation of what happened from Eset. Still as I type this I’ve yet to reinstall but I have two theories, both massively unfounded but it’s the only two things I can think of that may cause this, randomly and infrequently in the userbase.

1) A failed Nod32 update procedure that caused Vista to employ security measures and lock itself down, DEP issues perhaps?

2) A virus acting in such a way that a conflict occurs between Nod32 and Vista’s measures so that only native, 64 bit applications may access the internet.

It was an odd moment as Adaware and SpybotSAD ran fine but refused to update, Windows Live messenger opened fine but wouldn’t connect nor repair connection, on attempting to do so it crashed. Yahoo messenger crashed on start-up, all 32bit applications that were trying to access the internet? I think its most likely number two, a Vista security measure conflict with Nod32 that slipped through testing.

EDIT: Reinstalled and updated Nod32, no issue reoccurance, very very odd.

I had this issue as well and posted on here to try and find a solution with no luck.

In the end I did a complete format and reinstall. :(

I even tried switching NOD32 off beforehand with no luck.

there are problems at the moment, check on wilderssecurity forums eset have their forums on there

i just run without av, but i've read about the problems with nod32 + vista (might just be 64bit)

Heya Bledd,

Yeh, seems to be an issue only with x64. Like I say though, reinstalled and haven't had a problem yet.

Thanks for the heads up. Been using Vista x64 & NOD for a few months and not had any problems yet :) At least I'll now know what to look for if the issue occurs.

Well, I uninstalled NOD32 and guess what, everything stated working prefectly. IE, Outlook, Bitlord etc etc all work fine now. Also my connection has stopped dropping off at random as well.

I've re-installed after downloading a new installer off esets website as touch wood everything is going fine.
