Version 1.07
  • Added source address restriction for basic forwarding, DMZ and remote web/ssh admin. The IP address format for all are the same: "1.1.1.1", "1.1.1.0/24", "1.1.1.0/255.255.255.0" or "1.1.1.1-2.2.2.2". Note: This required some changes to Basic Forwarding's nvram format.
  • Bandwidth graph changes: Selectable 24/18/12/6/4 hours, total downloaded/uploaded during the period is now shown, time is now shown on clicked spot and at the bottom, refresh time is now automatically calculated, etc. As usual, please backup your data if needed before upgrading.
  • Added Motorola WR850G/GP support. Please see the warning in the readme before using.
  • Added Buffalo WHR2-G54 support.
  • Added support for wl_distance from OpenWRT. Pretty much untested at this point...
  • L7 patterns updated to 2007-05-09 version.
  • Dnsmasq upgraded to 2.39.
  • Removed Logout option for IE7. No suitable work-around was found for BA.
  • Fixed wl0_* may not get reset to the same value as wl_* in some cases.
Upgrading now, so will keep you updated.

I'll have to upgrade tonight.

I have got to say I love the Tomatoe firmware; the QOS performs good and the live bandwidth monitoring is ideal in pin pointing slow performance from somebody whoring the bandwidth in the house here at uni ;)

Some have more RAM and flash than others. If you're planning on using a P2P system that involves opening lots of connections, more RAM would be a plus.

More flash obviously means you can get more firmware in there. Some routers don't have room for any third party firmware, and some can only take a reduced size firmware with a subset of the features.

Thanks, but it was my cheeky way of asking which one had the fastest cpu, most Ram and Largest Flash storage. I’ll go ahead and find out myself and post the result here.

Cheers,

Looking at the DD-WRT device table for router spec: (http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Supported_Devices)

It seems, of the supported Linksys devices the WRTSL54GS is the best, but I’m dubious if the Buffalo WZR-RS-G54 is compatible (Tomato site lists WZR-G54) so whilst it has double the ram (64 as opposed to 32) my best bet is the Linksys WRTSL54GS?

EDIT: Also, given that it doesn’t act as a modem, would it be worth getting a proper PPPoA to PPPoE bridge like the DrayTek Vigor 100? Or do I need something else?

Out of interest, which is the best compatible router to go for, or does it really make no difference once flashed?
I personally use a Linksys WRT54GS v1.1 router. But I've read that the WRT54GL are rather favourable also - not sure why, though.

Because you can't buy the v1.1 GS any more, and the current version runs VXWorks, which more or less precludes running any (useful) third party firmware.

Because they're only £30 that's why. And the difference once you get the firmware on there is non-existant unless you have an intensive network.

First time ive heard of this firmware, the bandwidth monitor looks excellent.

Think ill install this on my wrt54g v1.2 sometime this week.
Last time i tried a custom firmware my xbox360 wouldnt get an open nat no matter what i did so i had to return to the standard linksys firmware.

I may cross everything and try again though.

TBH, Tomato is really the only custom firmware for my Linksys router, that I can use comfortably. Every so often, it is updated too. I feel that is a healthy sign, showing that their are no major problems - but development is constantly improving the firmware.

I would backup your config file - in case anything goes wrong, and you want to go back to the orignal firmware. Reset the router back to defaults, upgrade it to Tomato 1.07, let the router reboot and make sure you can login - then I personally reset it again, to be on the safe side. After that, tinker away, and enjoy!

Apart from putting your setting back in, I'd say the whole process takes up about 4 minutes - tops!

Sorry guys I know I’m being a pain, but can you please confirm what modems you are using? Can the tomato firmware deal with a PPPoA connection, meaning I wouldn't need a PPPoA to PPPoE bridge such as the Draytek vigor 100 for it to work with a an ADSLmax service?

It's more than just PPPoA - you need an ADSL modem. I've got mine hooked up to my Cisco 877, but I'm using it as more than just a modem.

Thanks for the info Basmic. Downloaded and installed earlier and finding it much more reliable (on one of my wrt54gs) than DD-WRT was. Browsing would be intermittent and even access to the config pages was flaky. I couldn't understand why, thought it was a dodgy router but put this on and it's much better.

I may add tomato to my other router when I'm back at my house in Notts. Cheers.
