On my server (Outland Eu which is in the Misery battlegroup) we've been experiencing a massive inconvenience in AV.
What? The emergence of bots. So many people are now using bots to grind honour for them that its beginning to spoil AV. In every AV there is always someone leeching and always someone who is "botting".
Are any of you noticing this? Bots have probably been about for a little while, but it seems like they have really increased recently.
Very annoying as its AV weekend this weekend.
Anyone seen it? Anyone use them? Can anyone actually explain what these actually do, how they work and what they are called please?
Thanks

Most of the people that do leech honor aren't actually using bots. They just go afk, and as soon as the game gives you the AFK tag, you just jump for example, resetting your status to normal. As for actual botting, I haven't yet to see any on my server or battlegroup (Dentarg EU)

Lol bots? moi? I didn't spend all that time levelling and grinding honour to just go afk and have a programme do it instead. I'm so glad that you put that link up Pixel <3 and think it somewhat sad how badly the leechers are affecting our enjoyment (which we are paying for). Bring back the old honour system of ranks and then we'll see how the botters do eh? :P
thanks for replies btw

Yup botting seems to be very bad at the moment.....for example at this time of the morning its at its worst. (in there right now).

but its quite strange.....at this time of the morning there are always far more Horde bots than Alliance in the battle group i am in. I havent lost a AV at this time of the morning for a couple of weeks...easy honour

Starting immediately, we will be issuing warnings and penalties, including suspensions, for non-participation in Battleground games. We are taking action against a large number of accounts immediately, and will continue to monitor these situations and regularly take action against violators. If you encounter a player in a Battleground who is intentionally not participating in the battle for an extended period of time, please help us track the situation and report the player as AFK. (Source)

I take this to mean that they're logging the people who are being reguarly flagged as leeching/non participating, and removing the rewards they've recieved.

TTLM Is an addon that automatically reports players as afk, based on how long they've been in the battleground, where they are (cave defenders, or bots running in circles in the base) and how much dmg/healing they've done. Its easy to report players using an anti-afk script or w/e, but this addon will report people who are actively botting also.

This new approach to afkers and BG botters is certainly to be applauded. Blizzard seem more willing to take action against certain behavioural problems in the game now, such as this AV change and the fact that they will now also take action against scammers.

I agree with you people.

I also agree that the old honor system should be brought back! That was some fun times.

Yup, uo until about 9am I win virtually every battleground I enter. Then the alliance kiddies wake up and we start getting hammered. 3am-9am is the best time for BG's for me. I'm on Arathor, can't recall which group that's in though.

What annoys me is the gimps who report you for things like staying still for more than 2 minutes at a bunker ( hello everheard of defense! ) and scream and yell on the bg chat that you are a leecher!

What also bugs me is they mentality of the alliance players who just zerg Galv and if the horde mount a defense or do anything other than just LET the alliance zerg they run about like headless chickens and just try to do what they normally do and get ganked over and over. You tell them to not go into the horde village alone but to wait untill there are a good number of you, but they simply ignore all advice and file in one by one to be ground into the dirt! *sigh* lol and dont get me started on the ones who will ALWAYS attack the tanks and never the 3 or 4 healers who are keeping him up.......

Yeah AV is pretty dire in those terms.

I don't bother to try and end it ASAP or stick with the crowd, I tend to wonder off and have some real PvP, group with a friend and try and hold a bunker for as long as possible etc etc. Each time you defend an attack on a bunker eventually 1 or 2 more charge in (1 by 1 at times) and you kill them with ease as you work together with your buddie.

What many dont realise is that defense is just there to try and slow down the inevitable. Unless you ALL stay to defend you will be killed quickly. The whole of AV is now a race against each other as to who can zerg in the fastest and kill the opposing general :p When a bunker is lost you get loads of kiddies spamming bg chat with "well done def... nabs" and suchlike... lol what do they expect! maybe 10 people defending against 40 horde usually.

Well it has been like that since cross-realm began. When I first got into AV the games lasted hours, we would push slowly and not allow anyone past us.. the entire raid group had this mentality.

The day cross-realm came in it was a shock to me how different it was. Since then it hasn't changed, I miss the old style of AV play.

I was once in an AV battle for 18hrs straight. I kid you not! - after killing 1000 you no longer gain honor from any kills.

It wasn't cross realm that caused it, it was when they removed all the npcs to stop you having 18 hour battles. The place used to be littered with guards and elites. How well I remember getting healing aggro from them all when playing on my Priest, and Korrak was a flippin' nightmare. They are trying to make AV work, but have consistently failed to produce a balanced contest that lasts 1 or 2 hours. It's usually over in a few minutes these days with both teams having no incentive to fight.

It was nothing to do with the NPCs.

It was due to the system changing/time evolving on WoW.

Back then there was no such thing as honor points it was a ranking system where you killed allies to gain rank, the effort from zerging to the general was not worth it back then and was less fun. The reason ranks was removed in favour of honor points was because people spent to much time per week to get 1st place to rank up. I'm talking about almost non-stop play and this was not healthy.

When cross-realm* was introduced tactics changed whilst still on the ranking system which was odd to me and a lot of people, a lot of people did not like the average 2/3hour AV battles and eventually it adapted into zerging.

Once honor points came around it just made it all the more worth doing. This being just before TBC when the fan base rocketed with new players which just followed suit.

*cross-realm happend where some servers were zerging before the cross over, other servers took to this to end it faster and it eventually became the norm. This may not be the case when cross-realm happend on your server.

Whatever the case though, AV has gone downhill over time and you are totally right about that! You are also right about the NPCs but I personally don't think that was the reason for the zerg.
