A quick question for you RAF type fellows.

I watched a very good programme on TV the other night which followed an AWACs crew operating in Afghanistan and at the end of one sortie, an RAF officer slipped on a waist length leather jacket with no markings other than his insignia on his shoulder. I think he was a Flight Lieutenant if I remember correctly.

Is this a standard issue jacket and could one purchase something similar ? I ask because it looked rather plain but snazzy at the same time.

Hmm, have you tried eBay? I seem to remember a lot of ex-military items get sold on there.

Whether they're geniune though is probably another thing.

You can usually pick up stuff like that from the army surplus stores. I think some might object to having the insignia too though. :p

I can't say I've seen any leather jackets, are you sure it was leather?
Definitely leather. I have an RAF bomber jacket that I bought about a year ago but it is of the RAF clothing range that was for public sale and I think still may be.

This one was different. t was just a dark, waist length jacket with no RAF insignia other than the officer's rank on shoulder epaulettes.

In that case I've never seen one.

Could just be an aircrew thing. Just looked for "RAF Leather Jacket" etc and found nothing.
